Details:
On January 25, 2013 at approximately 11:00 p.m. a shooting occurred at 5219 Madison Lake Circle in Tampa. The shooting resulted in the death of the victim, Sara Gonzalez, who died at the scene. The defendant, who is the live in boyfriend, was at the residence when the shooting occurred, along with the witness (name not released). During the court authorized search of the residence, a Glock 9mm handgun was located under the residence (crawl space) along with a single shell casing. During a post Miranda interview with defendant, the defendant first stated that an unknown person knocked on the front door and shot his girlfriend when she opened the door. He then changed his statement, and said the victim picked up his Glock handgun from a dresser and shot herself in the chest during an argument. The defendant admitted he threw the gun and shell casing under the residence after the shooting to conceal it. He advised he was scared because the gun the victim shot herself with was his. On January 26, 2013, the defendant was charged with tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
On January 27, 2013, the autopsy of the victim was conducted by the Hillsborough County Medical Examiners Office. The doctor concluded that the victim died from a single gunshot wound. The doctor also concluded the bullet entered the lower back of the victim and exited through the right front portion of her chest. It was also discovered that there was not evidence of a close contact wound. The manner of death was ruled a homicide. Based on evidence, the defendant was charged today, January 30, 2013 with one count of Second Degree Murder with a firearm.
