Christopher Justin Mendez
14044 Citrus Pointe Drive
Charge: Cruelty to Animals
Spike (3-year-old male pit bull mix)
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office received information from a complaint made to Hillsborough County Animal Services that a male living at 14044 Citrus Pointe Drive was abusing his dog. Between 05/04/2013 and 06/23/2013, Christopher Mendez deliberately caused repeated infliction of unnecessary pain towards his 3-year-old male pit bull mix dog, Spike. Mendez intentionally held the dog up by his neck and forcibly slammed it to the concrete floor. During another incident, Mendez threw what appeared to be a rock or a cement block at the dog, causing it to yelp, with the intent to cause the animal pain.
The investigation led to the obtaining of a felony warrant for Christopher Mendez for Cruelty to Animals. Mendez turned himself in to a Hillsborough County jail on July 4, 2013. Hillsborough County Animal Services removed Spike from the residence, as well as a 10-week-old pit bull puppy named Hennessy. Spike suffered from a hematoma on his head and further veterinary examination results are pending.
