An anonymous tip to Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay led to the arrest of Fabian Williams, who was wanted by the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office for the 2012 murder of 32 year old Michael Gilbert. HCSO detectives obtained a warrant for Williams' arrest shortly after the crime for Robbery with a Firearm (X3) and Felony First Degree Murder. Williams is also a Three Time Violent Offender and had only been out of prison for two years when this crime was committed.
The recent tip to Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay was immediately forwarded to the U.S. Marshal's Service Regional Fugitive Taskforce (Tampa) for investigation. With the assistance of the U.S. Marshal's Georgia Fugitive Taskforce, Williams was taken into custody at 916 West Street in Sylvester, GA without incident.
Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay is a private, nonprofit organization that gives citizens the ability to provide information anonymously regarding unsolved crimes and the whereabouts of wanted fugitives. Tipsters are eligible for cash rewards of up to $1,000 if their tips directly result in an arrest being made. Since the program began in 1988, Crime Stoppers of Tampa Bay has received over 37,000 tips resulting in over 4200 arrests, 10,000 criminal cases cleared, over $8.5 million in property and narcotics recovered, and over $1 million in rewards approved for tipsters.
Deputies responded to a shooting on April 5, 2012, at approximately 11:24 p.m. and discovered the victim (Michael Gilbert) deceased in the front yard of the residence. The victim and a male friend (witness/victim) were over at the Flower Avenue residence visiting the male homeowner (witness/victim).
At approximately 11:20 p.m. the defendant (Fabian Williams) while armed with a semi automatic pistol approached the victim, Michael Gilbert and the homeowner and demanded money. The defendant received approximately $150.00 in cash. During this time, the co-defendant, unknown black or Hispanic male armed with a semi automatic pistol approached the victim Gilbert while the defendant, Williams forced the homeowner into his residence at gunpoint. Upon entering the residence at 7924 Flower Avenue the defendant confronted Gilbert’s friend who was exiting the residence. The friend engaged in a physical altercation with the defendant which continued outside the residence. The homeowner and friend fled the area following the confrontation hearing multiple gunshots including two shots in the direction they were fleeing.
Victim, Gilbert died at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds. The defendant, Fabian Williams is known to both the homeowner and friend. Detectives have issued a warrant for Fabian Demetrick Williams for Felony First Degree Murder and Armed Robbery with a firearm. The second suspect has not been identified at this time. Detectives believe that the robbery/homicide is drug related.
