On March 21, 2013, at about 8 a.m., HCSO Detective Joe Testa was conducting surveillance at the Lighthouse Family Store located 535 E. Brandon Boulevard in Brandon, Florida due to five recent burglaries.
During this time, employees of a neighboring auto mechanic shop witnessed William Leon cutting the lock off a chain link fence at the store and backing his truck up to the store's loading dock. Williams was observed attempting to load up assorted metal items such as metal tins and cookware. While inside the fenced in area, the auto mechanic employees ran to the gate and held it closed so Williams could not escape. Detective Testa who was also present, drove up to the gate and was able enter the property and arrest Williams before he could escape and without incident.
William Leon has been linked to the previous five burglaries and has accumulated a total of 16 felony charges and 6 misdemeanors.
