Deputies immediately responded to the reported incident scene and discovered victim, Fern Giddings, DOB 2/4/57 and Nel Mason, DOB 5/6/60 inside the residence and injured from apparent gunshot wounds. Nel Mason was also transported to St. Joseph’s hospital where he died from her injuries. Fern Giddings was pronounced deceased at the scene and eye witnesses were later identified during the continued investigation. During that time, two individuals by the names of Gary Honish and Jason Burnett were identified as the two parties involved in the incident. Due to the rapid response of the District One and District Three Street Crimes units, both suspects were quickly located and taken into custody for questioning. A firearm was located, which is believed to be the weapon used during this incident. After conducting several interviews and conferring with the State Attorney’s Office, Jason Burnett was charged with Felony Murder in the 1st Degree with a Firearm (2 counts). Gary Honish was arrested and charged with Accessory After the Fact to Home Invasion Robbery. .

Gary Honish knew the victims and had done previous narcotic transactions with them. Based on the information that Honish had provided Burnett that the victims would be a good target for a home invasion as they would have narcotics and cash on hand, Burnett had Honish drive to the residence. And after Honish dropped Burnett off, Burnett returned to the vehicle and stated that he had robbed the victims.

All three women lived at the Manhattan residence. Nel Mason is the mother of Christina Soto and Fern Giddings was a friend of both.
