3 years of age
At approximately 7:10 p.m., May 7, 2013, deputies responded to the Avesta Apartments located at 13144 North 22nd Street, Apt. 109 in reference to a shooting. Deputies discovered that a 3-year-old male child had suffered a gunshot wound. At the time of the shooting, the child was inside the apartment with his mother, father and uncle. The shooting occurred in one of the bedrooms. The child was transported to Florida Hospital where he expired.
Detectives have determined that Jeffrey Walker, uncle of Jadarrius Speights shared a bedroom with the child and had left the unsecured 9mm handgun in a backpack. Walker had purchased the gun at a gun shop in the Tampa Bay area and also has a concealed weapons permit.
The child’s parents, Jasmine Bell, DOB: 10-24-91 and Trentin Speights, DOB: 8-9-90 were in their bedroom at the time of the shooting.
