On May 14, 2013 at approximately 11:55 a.m., HCSO deputies responded to a burglary in progress call at 15119 Lake Magdalene Blvd. in Tampa. Upon arrival, deputies saw a male jump from a window and run north from the residence. Deputies gave verbal commands for the suspect to stop, but he continued running towards a boat dock and jumped into Lake Platt. The suspect swam offshore about 50 yards and then swam back far enough to stand and removed clothing as he yelled at deputies. The suspect then swam offshore again and towards a small island. The Aviation Unit, Marine Unit and Dive Team responded and searched the small island until the suspect was found hiding under mangroves and was apprehended. The suspect was transported to Tampa General Hospital for medical treatment and then transported to a Hillsborough County jail. Detectives are still trying to determine if there was a second suspect involved in yesterday's burglary that may have fled before deputies arrived.
