On November 8, 2013 at 1:36 p.m., an HCSO tag reader in the District I area alerted that a stolen vehicle had passed by. Deputies responded and spotted the vehicle on 15th Street. As a deputy approached the vehicle, before activating lights and siren, the suspect sped off. The driver stopped the vehicle at 140th and 15th Street and fled on foot. At that time, the passenger jumped into the driver's seat and sped off down 22nd Street and made a left onto 143rd Ave. The driver failed to negotiate a turn onto 15th Street and
struck a telephone post. He continued south on 15th Street and once again lost control of the vehicle at 137th Ave. and 15th Street where he hit a street sign and fire hydrant. The suspect then fled on foot, but was apprehended a short time later by K-9. The suspect was transported to Tampa General Hospital to be treated for the dog bite.

Deputies checked one of the previously known addresses for Kirkland and took him into custody a short time later without incident.

After searching the stolen vehicle, deputies found a stolen firearm inside.
