On November 8, 2013 at approximately 4:29 p.m., a fatal traffic crash occurred in the intersection of Waters Avenue and Twelve Oaks Boulevard. A 2008 Yamaha motorcycle was eastbound on Waters Avenue at a high rate of speed, according to witnesses. A 2008 Thompson school bus was westbound on Waters Avenue and initiated a left turn onto Twelve Oaks Boulevard. Witnesses observed the motorcycle speed up when the bus started the turn. The motorcycle struck the front of the bus dislodging the front bumper from the vehicle. The motorcycle continued past the bus striking a 2002 Mercury Sable on the drivers' side. The Mercury was northbound on Twelve Oaks and at a stop for the traffic light. Debris from the impact also damaged a 2004 Acura and a 2012 Nissan Altima.
There were 5 students on the bus who were unhurt in the crash, they were released to their parents. The driver of the bus was uninjured in the crash, but was taken to Town and Country Hospital for evaluation. The motorcyclist was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital where he expired from the injuries sustained in the crash. Also damaged by the flying debris was the traffic signal control box requiring traffic maintenance response for repairs.
