On November 9, 2013 at approximately 12:55 a.m., Matthew Laine was having dinner at the Waffle House located at 1902 Lumsden Road in Brandon. Briana Reddick, Princess Benoit and two other friends arrived at the Waffle House in a vehicle to pick-up food. The two friends exited the car and went inside to place their order. While Reddick and Benoit waited in the car for their friends, Laine exited the restaurant and fired 15 rounds (point blank range) into the vehicle. Reddick was struck in the right leg, just above her knee and in her right arm. Reddick was transported to Tampa General Hospital in stable condition. Benoit sustained multiple cuts to both of her legs as a result of the broken glass. Laine fled the scene in a silver sedan with dark rims. There were several witnesses to the incident, but no other injuries.
Laine was located at his residence and taken into custody without incident.
Based on the interviews, it does not appear Laine personally knew either victim. Additionally, there is no evidence to suggest there was any type of altercation preceding the incident.
