Residential Fire Leads To A Marijuana Grow House:
At approximately 3 a.m. on November 20, 2013, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue personnel responded to a unoccupied residential house fire located at 1309 Hollyglen Drive in Tampa.
Firefighters quickly arrived and were able to extinguish the fire that left moderate damage to the home. During an interior search of the residence for potential fire victims, firefighters happened upon a indoor marijuana grow operation.
Detectives assigned to the HCSO Special Investigation Division, Tactical Intelligence Team responded to the scene and began a drug investigation. Detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence and located two rooms which were converted for the sole purpose of cultivating marijuana.
Detectives recovered nine (9) marijuana plants along with several bags of previously harvested plants. The total weight of the marijuana was 73.3 pounds with an approximate street value of $50,000. An unknown number of marijuana plants were destroyed in the fire as well as equipment.
Tampa Electric Company responded to the scene and located an illegal tap supplying electrical service without a meter.
No arrest at this time pending further investigation.
