On Sunday, October 13, 2013, just before 10:30 pm, HCSO K-9 Team Deputy Brian Davis and his K-9 partner Teton responded to a burglar alarm coming from the Brandon High School sports concession stand located at 1101 Victoria Street in Brandon.
During the initial check of the building, it appeared secured. A further examination of the area near the building, Deputy Davis discovered a bike and backpack hidden underneath a Hillsborough County School bus.
The Deputy Davis and his K-9 went to the far west side of the parking lot and momentarily concealed themselves. In just a short time, Andrew Johnson-Garner was spotted carrying a backpack fleeing the scene on the same bike hidden under the bus. Deputy Davis gave a verbal to stop or the K-9 would be released. Johnson-Garner voluntarily stopped and K-9 Teton was not released. Further investigation revealed Andrew Johnson-Garner who is a 9th grade student at Brandon High School broke into the concession stand that prompted activation of the burglar alarm.
Once taken into custody, deputies discovered Johnson-Garner's backpack contained 11 packs of M&M candy and the bicycle he was riding was stolen. Johnson-Garner later admitted to breaking into the concession stand and then hiding on an open school bus when he saw the deputy. Johnson-Garner was booked into the Hillsborough County Juvenile Assessment Center.
