On September 9, 2013, between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., Mark Cruz, was at an unknown address in Hillsborough County, when he was shot once in the leg when his .22 cal firearm fell out of his pocket and discharged after hitting the ground.
Cruse who was uncooperative would only tell deputies while being treated at South Bay Hospital he unintentionally shot himself when his gun fell out of his pocket. Cruz refused to disclose where he disposed the gun only to say he tossed it in a unnamed lake. During the investigation, deputies determined Cruz is a convicted felon and prohibited from owing or possessing a firearm.
Cruz was medically cleared from South Bay Hospital and taken to the Hillsborough County Jail with the listed criminal charges.
