Domestic Related Shooting
Detectives respond to a father and son dispute.

Why/How: Based on preliminary information at the time of this release, the following circumstances are believed to have led to this incident which remains under investigation;
Shortly after 11 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2013, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office received a 9-1-1 call indicating a domestic related shooting involving a father and son has occurred at 18627 San Rio Circle in Lutz.
According to detectives, Eric Harris and his girlfriend, returned to Eric's residence after the USF football game. Eric Harris was intoxicated and became involved in a verbal argument with his girlfriend.
Henry Harris, Eric's father was home and in the process of taking his four pit bulls for a walk. Henry Harris has a concealed weapons permit and typically carries a 9mm semi-auto handgun for protection when he walks the dogs.
The argument between Eric and his girlfriend spilled over into and argument between Eric and his father Henry.
As Henry exited the residence, Eric attacked him from behind and placed him in a choke hold. Henry stated he could not breathe, his arms began to tingle, and he started to lose consciousness; however, he managed to break free of the choke hold and disengage from his son.
Henry stated it's when Eric began to come at him again; he pulled out his handgun and shot Eric once in the chest. Henry Harris and a neighbor called 9-1-1 and waited for deputies to arrive.
Hillsborough County Fire Rescue paramedics transported Eric Harris from the scene to a local hospital where he is currently being treated and is listed in stable condition.
Detectives will continue documenting interviews and processing crime scene evidence. Once the investigation is completed, it will be turned over to the Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office (SAO) who will determine if criminal charges will be filed.
No arrests were made at this time pending review by the SAO.
The investigation continues.
