Austin Tyler Hall
9506 Citrus Glen place
- Grand Theft (Felony 3rd degree)
- Dealing in Stolen Property (Felony 2nd degree)
Over the past several months, HCSO detectives have seen an increase in Craigslist related rip-offs between suspects posing as buyers and legitimate sellers during public transactions. The scam begins when the suspect/buyer surfs Craigslist and finds an item such as cell phones, televisions and paintball guns listed for sale.
The suspect/buyer then contacts the seller and makes arrangements to meet at a public place to complete the purchase. Once the suspect/buyer and seller meet, the suspect will either snatch the item as soon as the item is seen or they will wait to physically handle the item as if to inspect it and then run away once they get their hands on it.
Currently, we have three cases near the Plantation Key Apartments, located at SR60 and Providence Blvd in Brandon. In each of these cases, a lone black male suspect has committed the crimes. We have two cases where paintball guns were stolen after the suspect simply asked to look at the gun and then ran away with the property.
We arrested Austin Hall (listed above) on these cases and once arrested, we learned that Hall was a previous victim of the same type of scam where he had his cell phone taken from him from an alleged buyer.
