Pedestrian Struck & Killed By Train
Man struck by CSX freight train while walking too closely to tracks.
- September 25, 2013
- Time: 5:50 PM
Dwight Antonio Hamilton
4801 River Grass Court
On September 25, 2013 at 5:50 p.m., Dwight Hamilton was walking west down the middle of the tracks approaching Hwy 301. The train engineer activated the train horn in an attempt to alert Hamilton. Hamilton appeared to step off of the track, turned around and looked at the train. At the last minute, he turned back into the train and was struck. During the investigation, detectives learned that another crew observed Hamilton walking and dancing in the middle of the tracks earlier in the day. Detectives are unsure if this was a suicide or an accident because Hamilton suffers from dementia. On September 23, 2013, his daughter had reported him missing after he didn't meet up with her at the bus stop after church as they had planned.
