Gary W. Tozzi

Based upon the preliminary information at the time of this release, the following circumstances are believed to have led to this incident which remains under investigation;
HCSO detectives have positively identified the victim found earlier today in a retention pond next to his home at 1222 E. 138th Ave in Tampa. According to detectives, the victim's roommates stated they last saw Tozzi walk out of the house two nights ago and may have been having some sort of delusions. Tozzi shared the residence with several other roommates in a group home setting. The roommates did not notify the sheriff's office when Tozzi left and Tozzi was never reported missing by anyone.
After today's recovery of Tozzi's body, the initial preliminary on scene exam by homicide detectives as well as the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner revealed no visible signs of foul play.
However, these findings are preliminary in nature and are subject to change once a full autopsy can be completed and an official cause of death is determined. Detectives have learned that Tozzi had been previously diagnosed with physiological issues and may have not been taking his prescribed medications. Detectives will continue to work on the case interviewing any friends and/or relatives of the victim and by examining any forensic evidence obtained at the crime scene or by the Medical Examiner's Office. I have no further information at this time.
The investigation continues.
