    The following details are what's currently known at the time of this public release and are subject to change as the investigation continues;

    Hillsborough County, FL. (Tampa) -  At approximately 3:30 a.m., on August 2, 2014, 29-year-old Gabriel A. Rivera of 1504 W. Broad Street in Tampa was fatality injured from the results of a traffic crash with a 2006 Honda Accord on N. Himes Ave and W. Hamilton Street in Tampa.

    According to traffic homicide detectives, Rivera was traveling northbound on N. Himes Avenue at approximately 50 mph when he drove left of the double yellow line in an effort to pass 51 year old Blanca I. Sanchez-Diaz, of 6804 Matilda Ct in Tampa. Sanchez-Diaz was also driving northbound on N. Himes Ave in a 2002 Honda Accord.

    Evidence at the scene showed Rivera's motorcycle struck the front of the Honda as Sanchez-Diaz was slowing to make a left turn onto W. Hamilton Street.

    Rivera was ejected from the motorcycle and thrown into the glass enclosure of a Hart Line bus stop on the corner. Rivera was taken to a local hospital where he later died. He was not wearing a helmet.

    Blood samples were drawn from Sanchez-Diaz and submitted for a toxicology analysis. No charges have been filed pending further investigation and the results of toxicology reports.

    Drugs and/or alcohol may have been contributing factors in this crash. Rivera and Sanchez-Diaz were both reportedly coming from local night clubs.

    Next of kin have been notified.

    The investigation continues.
