    Deputies Helping Keep Hillsborough County School Students Safe

    Deputies Helping Keep Hillsborough County Students Safe:

    The below listed cases are examples of Hillsborough County School Resource Deputies, Hillsborough County School Officials and students working together to help keep our schools safe.

    Several of these cases were discovered after students provided information to school officials or deputies. One case involves a deputy who was trying to break up a violent fight and ended up getting attacked himself.

    Case #1

    Eisenhower Middle School - 7620 Old Big Bend Road, Riverview

    Students Arrested:

    Female, 12 year old
    Charge: Possession of weapon on school grounds (knife)

    Female, 14 year old
    Charge: Possession of weapon on school grounds (knife)

    On February 24, 2014 a school administrative search was conducted on the 12 year old female. A 3.5" tactical knife was located on her person. The knife was inside a sheath and was to be worn as a necklace. During the investigation, it was discovered that the 14 year old female had given the knife to the 12 year old when she believed that school authorities were aware that she had the knife.

    Both students were arrested without incident and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

    Case #2

    Lennard High School - 2342 E. Shell Point Road, Riverview

    Student Arrested;
    Alicia Capaz 19 years old
    5412 Hammock View Lane
    Apollo Beach, Fl

    Charge: Possession of weapon on school grounds (stun gun)

    On February 25, 2014, School Resource Deputy along with school administrator conducted a search of the 19 year old female for cigarettes on school grounds. During the search the student was found with a Leopard brand stun gun in her purse.

    Student was arrested and transported to Orient Road Jail.

    Case #3

    Randall Middle School - 16511 Fishhawk Blvd, Valrico.

    Student Arrested;
    Female, 12 year old
    Charge: Possession of weapon on school grounds (two razor blades)

    On February 25, 2014, school authorities learned that the 12 year old female was in possession of a weapon. A search was conducted and discovered that the female had 2 razor blades in her possession.

    Student was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.

    Case #4

    McLane Middle School - 306 Knights Avenue North, Brandon

    Students Arrested;
    Female, 15 year old
    Female, 14 year old
    Charge: Assault/Battery of Law Enforcement

    On February 25, 2014 at approximately 4:15 pm, School Resource Deputy Chad Keen observed two teenage girls fighting at the school bus ramp at McLane Middle School.

    Deputy Keen tried several times to physically and verbally separate the two teens without any success. As the fight continued, a large crowd quickly began to build creating further danger of the situation escalating. The deputy continued with his efforts to separate the two teens when the combatants turned and began striking the deputy. Deputy Keen deployed his Taser on one of the combatants a 15 year old, who was then taken into custody. The second student age 14, fled on foot and was later apprehended by HCSO D1 Patrol at her residence in the City of Tampa.

    Both students were transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
