The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, the Tampa Police Department, the Homeless Coalition of Hillsborough County, Hillsborough County Public Defenders Office, Walgreens Pharmacy and the U.S. Department of Veteran's Affairs are working together to help homeless veterans get off the streets in Hillsborough County.
Over the last several weeks, deputies have been working to identify homeless veterans in Hillsborough County and will provide many of them with a ride to this helpful event.
Various representatives from the participating entities will then help qualified veterans fill out housing voucher applications, organize their military paperwork, and assess their needs for mental and physical health needs along with substance abuse counseling and other vital services.
The goal is to provide a path toward permanent housing and end the cycle of chronic homelessness for those who have served our country. While this event focuses on homeless veterans, the organizers are also reaching out to the chronic homeless living on Hillsborough County's streets. Counselors will be assessing their needs and trying to match them with available services and housing options.
