Law Enforcement Crisis Intervention Team Meet:
On Thursday, June 5th, 2014, beginning at 10 am, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Colonel Greg Brown hosted a round table discussion with deputies assigned to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Crisis Intervention Team (CIT), family members, consumers and mental health care professionals. The event was held at the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Freddie Solomon Annex.
The topic of discussion focused on Sheriff Gee's continued collaborative
efforts to create and sustain more effective local initiatives designed to improve the way law enforcement and the community respond to people experiencing mental health crises. These initiatives are built upon on strong partnerships between law enforcement, mental health provider agencies and individuals and families affected by mental illness.
Sheriff David Gee is a champion for Crisis Intervention Teams of long standing. In 2003, as Chief Deputy and a strong proponent of the CIT Program, he was the featured speaker promoting CIT in the Tampa Bay Area at a CIT Summit attended by several Police Chiefs, providers, politicians, and advocates. His professional and personal commitment was very instrumental in persuading other police departments to accept CIT as a practice long needed. In 2007, Sheriff David Gee was awarded "Sheriff of the Year" by the National Crisis Intervention Team.
Sheriff David Gee maintains his long standing professional and personal commitment to ensure that all citizens of Hillsborough County have a first class Law Enforcement Crisis Intervention Team.
