- Murder in the First Degree
On June 9, 2014, the victim, defendant, and three witnesses were hanging out at an apartment located at 4802 Sims Inlet Road in Tampa. All five individuals were socializing when the victim began to inquire about the relationship the defendant had with one of the witnesses. Another witness informed the victim that they were boyfriend and girlfriend. When the defendant was informed of the victim's inquiry, he confronted the victim. The defendant asked the victim why he was disrespecting him by hitting on his girlfriend and the victim asked the defendant what he was going to do about it. At that time, the victim grabbed a closed pocket knife, placed it into his pocket and walked outside. A few minutes later, the defendant walked outside armed with a firearm along with one of the witnesses. Within five minutes, several gunshots were heard outside. Approximately 2 minutes later, the defendant and witness walked back into the apartment where the defendant informed the three witnesses that they needed to leave. At 9:22 p.m., deputies arrived on scene and located Akime Casey deceased within the courtyard of the apartment complex. During the course of the investigation, detectives identified the defendant as Nathaniel O'Neal, DOB 04/29/93. On June 10, 2014, detectives located and arrested Nathaniel O'Neal without incident. He is facing one count of First Degree Murder with a Firearm.
