On June 23, 2014 at approximately 8:00 pm, HCSO was contacted via cell phone by a man who said he and his friends were lost in their canoe along the Hillsborough River and unable to find their way back to their launch site at John B Sargeant Park located at US 301 and Stacey Road.
HCSO Aviation and Marine Units immediately began a search and rescue mission in attempt to locate the men. About 1:00 am, Marine Units located their canoe. Deputies could hear the men yelling and kept in contact with them until daybreak when they were spotted. Deputies guided the three men from the log back to their canoe. With two deputies leading the way, they paddled for an hour to John B. Sargeant Park.
