Detectives have located the female that was in the apartment with the suspect and victim (we are not releasing her name). Detectives were able to determine that the female was a prostitute that was hired by the suspect. The suspect originally called 911 stating that the female had stolen money from him. He then proceeded to keep the 911 dispatcher on the phone while the female was trying to leave. According to witnesses, the female prostitute was seen fleeing the apartment complex. When deputies arrived, the suspect answered the door and told deputies that everything was o.k. and the female had left. The deputies explained that they needed to come in the apartment and check on the welfare of everyone. The suspect made several attempts to keep deputies out of the apartment and during the initial investigation. Deputies discovered the victim on the floor suffering from stab wounds and deputies had to restrain the suspect from interfering with medical attention for the victim. The victim was transported to the hospital where he died.
During the course of the investigation deputies identified the female prostitute and were able to interview her. Her statements reference leaving the apartment was consistent with video surveillance from the apartment complex. The time the vehicle exits the apartment complex, the victim and the defendant were both still on the phone with 911.
The medical examiner's office performed an autopsy and listed the cause of death as stab wound of torso with perforation of heart and lung and the manner of death as a homicide. The victim sustained two stab wounds, one to the back and one to the side of the torso.
FDLE examination of forensic evidence showed evidence from the defendant on the victim.
