Warrant was for Violation of Probation/Grand Theft 3rd Degree
Based on preliminary information at the time of this release, the following circumstances are believed to have led to this incident which remains under investigation:
On March 28, 2014 just after 9 a.m., Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office warrants detectives located and arrested an adult female on an outstanding warrant while at her residence located at 8220 N. Florida Ave, in Tampa. The warrants had previously been issued by the Florida Department of Corrections for Violation of Probation - Grand Theft 3rd Degree. At the time of arrest, the woman was cooperative and offered no resistance. She was escorted to the detective's vehicle and seated in the back seat without handcuffs because of a complaint she made of a previous shoulder injury.
The detectives transported the woman to the Orient Road Jail and parked outside the sally port to complete the arrest affidavit. During that time, the detectives noticed that the woman began experiencing what sounded like she was having trouble breathing. The detectives immediately pulled into the sally port where the jail nurse and EMS were summoned. EMS arrived on scene and transported the woman to a local hospital where she died a short time after she arrived.
Detectives in the Criminal Investigation Division have initiated an investigation. The body will be taken to the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office where an autopsy will be conducted to determine the official cause of death. No foul play is suspected.
