Willis Luthern Uzzell
- Fugitive – North Carolina
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputies had received information in regards to a suspicious subject who had recently moved into Hillsborough County. Community Resource Deputy Mark Liittschwager researched the subject, Willis Uzzell and learned he had an active warrant in North Carolina for burglary. He also found online postings and news stories indicating Uzzell was perpetually involved in fraud, theft and burglary around the United States. Liittschwager discovered that the arrest warrant extradition was limited to states contiguous to North Carolina. Liitschwager went a step further in contacting HCSO warrants detectives who contacted authorities in North Carolina and convinced them to expand the extradition area to include Florida.
Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Crime Analyst Elizabeth Mendenhall then went to work, determined to figure out where detectives could find Uzzell. Since his arrival in Hillsborough County, Uzzell was believed to be moving from motel to motel in the area. By using a variety of investigative techniques, Mendenhall was able to determine the vehicle Uzzell was driving, as well as a few specific locations where he might be located. With this information in hand, Uzzell was found by Warrants detectives in the Drew Park area and he was taken into custody.
Uzzell is currently in the Hillsborogh County jail awaiting extradition to North Carolina.
