- Solicitation to Commit Armed Robbery
On August 21, 2015, at approximately 9:00 pm, detectives and deputies assigned to Patrol District II conducted an undercover investigation after learning a subject was actively seeking people to assist him in committing an armed robbery of the Cali Viejo Restaurant located at 436 East Brandon Boulevard in Brandon. The subject, later identified as Jonathan Arzuaga-Ortiz, previously worked at the restaurant, and used his knowledge of the business' operations to create a detailed plan for robbing the location. The subject solicited an undercover Sheriff's Office deputy to assist him in executing the plan in the coming days, going so far as to describe the exact means of entry into the restaurant, as well as tactics for controlling the employees using a firearm and physical brutality. The suspect also described the manner in which proceeds from the robbery would be divided. Deputies later apprehended Arzuaga-Ortiz and charged him with Solicitation to Commit Armed Robbery.
