HCSO was notified of this incident at 4:30 am on 12/28/15 when the victim arrived at a local hospital with severe injuries. Detectives quickly began a criminal investigation which ended up with the arrest of Kent H. Johnson Sr. for 2 counts of Aggravated Child Abuse.
The following narrative listed below has been copied from the probable cause portion of the criminal arrest affidavit filed at the time of the arrest. The only information that has been redacted is the relationship between the victim and the defendant.
"The undersigned swears there is probable cause to believe that the above named defendant in Hillsborough County, Florida, did: - On 12/19/15 the defendant, Kent Hawkins Johnson Sr., was in sole care and custody of the 2-month-old male victim when the victim suffered multiple fractures of his ribs and femur. On 12/27/15 at approximately 4:00 pm, the defendant struck the victim with his hand on the victim's head. A doctor with the Child Protection Team examined the victim on 12/28/15 and noted the victim had a skull fracture that occurred within the past 24 hours. The fractured ribs and femur occurred approximately 7 to 10 days prior to the examination.
