On February 9, 2015 at 12:05 a.m. at the Oasis Bar and Grill, 250 Apollo Beach Blvd., John Cannon was drunk and causing a disturbance. He was throwing things and arguing with other patrons that were asking him to leave. A deputy responded to the scene and observed Cannon open up a folding knife with a 3” blade. Cannon refused multiple commands from the deputy to drop the knife. The deputy deployed his ECD one time and struck Cannon in the chest at which time Cannon fell to the ground. The deputy was then able to kick the knife out of Cannon's hand and arrest him without further incident. There were no injuries during this incident and Cannon refused medical treatment.
