On February 15, 2015 at 4:22 p.m., Glennis Mays became involved in a physical altercation with another male while at a family gathering. During the fight, Mays drew a firearm and fired one shot, attempting to strike the other male. Mays then fled into his residence and out a back bedroom window. Mays ran through the yard, over a back fence and into a wooded area that surrounds a pond. A perimeter was set up by District 1 Alpha, Bravo and Street Crimes units. Aviation responded to assist with the search along with Master Deputy Grecco and K9 Bullit. K9 Bullit located a track in a north east direction around the pond and located the suspect hiding in thick brush along the bank of the pond. K9 Bullit grabbed Mays on his left forearm and held him. Not knowing whether Mays was still armed, verbal commands were given which Mays complied with. K9 Bullit was then called out and the suspect was handcuffed. Mays received first aid at the scene from HCFR for the bite. Mays is a certified gang member and this was his 38th arrest within the county. He is being charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Discharge Firearm in Public or on Residential Property and Obstructing or Opposing an Officer without Violence.
