- Aggravated Cruelty to Animals
On February 22, 2105 at 8:25 p.m., Daniel Turk intentionally struck his pet pit bull, Tiger, multiple times in the head with a hammer. The dog and a house cat got into a fight at which time the pit bull bit the cat. The defendant then hit the dog in the head with a hammer to separate the two, drug the dog outside and continued to hit him in the head and face with the hammer to put him down. The animal suffered multiple open wounds to his head and face. Post Miranda, the defendant stated he hit the dog about 20 times to "knock him out." The defendant signed all ownership of the dog over to Hillsborough County and refused to provide treatment. The hammer was recovered at the scene.
Both the dog and cat are still being treated at a local emergency clinic and are expected to survive.
