Deputies Win Wawa’s “Finest vs. Bravest” Hoagie Building Contest:
On January 29, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deputies competed with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue firefighters in Wawa’s “Finest vs. Bravest” Hoagie Building Contest.
Wawa held a grand opening celebration at 10:00 a.m. During the grand opening, local officials, members of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office and County Fire Rescue, store associates and Wawa’s mascot participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony.
The ceremony culminated with a “Hoagies for Heroes” sandwich building competition, as members of both Sheriff’s Office and Fire Rescue faced off in a battle of skill and sandwich making expertise. Each team was challenged to see who could build the most hoagies in three minutes in the traditional Wawa way.
Representing the Patrol Division from District 4 was Deputies Theodore Perez, Robert Howard, Nicholas Cruz, Christopher McMurtry and Detective Nikki Smith.
Wawa concluded the Hoagies for Heroes competition by presenting checks on behalf of the winning and runner up teams, for $1,000 to their charities of choice. Major J.R. Burton was on hand to accept the $1,000 check for the Lynn Sowers Memorial Foundation.
