At approximately 12:12 pm, May 30, 2015 deputies responded to a crash involving a vehicle and an Amtrac train. The railroad crossing arms had lowered for an oncoming train and traffic was stopped. A vehicle driven by Jermaine Lamar Williams went around several vehicles that were stopped and waiting for the oncoming train. He traveled in the oncoming lane of traffic, went around the vehicles and proceeded through the lowered train crossing arms when he was t-boned by the oncoming Amtrac train. Williams suffered non life threatening injuries and was transported to Tampa General Hospital via EMS.
The Amtrac train had 103 passengers on board as well as 9 crew members. No one on the train was injured. The conductor estimated the train to be traveling between 78 - 79 mph.
