Hillsborough County District II Street Crimes Unit received information that a fugitive from Kentucky had escaped supervision and was possibly en-route to the Plant City area, where he has relatives. Deputies confirmed the warrant for Willard Ray Hunt who is a CRIP gang member and known to be violent toward law enforcement. Deputies were told that Hunt could possibly be armed with a firearm he stole during a burglary. Deputies identified and searched multiple residences in East Hillsborough County belonging to family members and acquaintances and did not locate Hunt. Through the investigation, deputies learned that Hunt may have traveled to the area by riding with over the road truck drivers. Deputies saturated the Flying J and TA truck stop at Country Road 579 and Interstate 4 and began interviewing truck drivers. Deputies located a truck driver who stated he saw an individual matching the description of Hunt walking through the parking lot asking for a cell phone. Deputies conducted a thorough search of the area to include inside tractor trailers. Willard Hunt was located in the cab of a truck and was arrested without incident.
In 2004, Hunt was arrested in Hillsborough County on a Kentucky fugitive warrant and was transferred back to Kentucky.
