On June 25, 2015 at approximately 1:30 a.m., the defendant Shanika Jackson entered the victim's residence and removed her car keys. The defendant then took the victim's 2000 Mazda Protege without permission and fled the scene. Jackson crashed the vehicle into the front window of an occupied apartment located at 13426 La Place Circle. The vehicle also struck an occupied Kia Sedona van that belonged to the resident of the home.
Witnesses who heard the crash saw the defendant fleeing the scene on foot. Deputies located Jackson at 155 Street North and 131 Avenue East. She was arrested for Grand Theft Motor Vehicle, Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Property Damage and Driving Under the Influence.
No one inside the apartment was injured. Damage to the residence is estimated at $10,000 and the damage to the Kia Sedona is estimated at $500.00.
