Suspect Kevin McGruder was returned to Hillsborough County on March 9, 2015 after being arrested in Okeechobee County on Hillsborough County warrants.
On February 12, 2015, Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office was notified by Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office asking HCSO to make contact with the victim's mother. When deputies responded to the address they discovered the residence to be in disarray and evidence of a physical altercation having taken place. The victim and her infant were not at the residence.
Okeechobee County Sheriff's Office asked HCSO to have the victim's mother respond to a hospital in their county as her 17-year-old daughter had been located. The victim and her infant had been taken by McGruder to Okeechobee County against her will. During the course of travel the suspect raped the victim again. The suspect then tied the victim to a tree with an electrical cord and left her in a wooded in area in Okeechobee County. The victim was able to get free, where she was picked up by a Good Samaritan and taken to a convenience store where she made contact with law enforcement. She was then transported to the hospital in Okeechobee County to be treated. McGruder had also beaten the victim.
On February 27, 2015 authorities in Osceola County located McGruder and the infant near the Desert Inn at Yeehaw Junction and took him into custody, returning him to Okeechobee County.
On March 9, 2015 McGruder was transported back to Hillsborough County on the above charges.
