On March 20, 2015, Special Investigation Division detectives concluded an eleven month narcotics investigation with the assistance of SWAT, Tampa Police Department and District Four deputies by conducting a buy/bust and two separate court authorized search warrants. Detectives conducted a buy/bust operation for a half kilogram (504 grams) of powder cocaine which resulted in the arrest of Willie Johnson. During the operation, SWAT executed a search warrant at 8303 Ash Avenue in Tampa. Prior to entry, detectives observed the homeowner, Derrick Willis flee on foot and apprehended him after a brief foot pursuit. During a search of the residence, detectives located a large amount of cocaine packaged for sale, along with $2,665.00 in currency. Detectives also seized a 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 which was valued at $5,500.00. Detectives then responded to the Metro Self Storage located at 10813 Boyette Road in Riverview and executed a court authorized search warrant on the unit being rented by Derrick Willis. Once inside the storage unit, detectives recovered a large amount of powder cocaine along with cutting agent and several kilo presses. Estimated street value of cocaine is $300,000.00.
