On May 14, 2015, HCSO detectives acting on a tip of a possible indoor marijuana grow operation at 1013 Crenshaw Lake Road in Lutz, made contact with the homeowner Alberto Lavandera and obtained consent to enter the residence.
While speaking with the Lavandera, detectives developed probable cause for a court authorized search warrant. Detectives, with the assistance of District 1 patrol deputies, executed a search warrant and discovered two rooms converted for the sole purpose of cultivating marijuana. Detectives recovered a total of fifty-one (51) mature marijuana plants which had a total weight of 284 pounds.
TECO responded and located an illegal electricity connection providing unmetered electric to the residence with a total estimated theft of $7,715 dollars.
Detectives arrested Alberto Lavandera and charged him with trafficking in marijuana, grand theft electricity, cultivation of marijuana, possession of a structure used for trafficking in controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. The marijuana had an estimated street value of $568,000.00.
This is the 13th indoor marijuana grow operation HCSO has investigated in 2015.
