During the month of March. Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties identified a late night business burglary crime trend which specifically targeted pizza carryout/delivery restaurants within the bay area. While the trend continued to grow exponentially over the next several months. burglaries of cash advance establishments with the same modus operandi also began to emerge. The evidence was thoroughly reviewed and a detailed latent investigation led to the discovery of two potential suspects. A three week. 24-hour, surveillance operation was then initiated. As a result of the surveillance operation, suspects and cousins, Marvin Gulley and Stanford Gulley were taken into custody on the weekend of September 19th. Both were implicated in approximately thirty-five (35) commercial burglaries throughout the State of Florida over a nine (9) month period. the pair collectively stole nearly $80,000 in cash. Detectives executed Search Warrants at a local hotel room and on a vehicle on September 20th, seizing $28,000 cash, numerous burglary tools, cocaine, articles of clothing and a 2004 Chrysler sedan used in the commission of the burglaries.
To date. Marvin Gulley is charged with five (5) counts of Burglary of an Unoccupied Structure, five (5) counts of Criminal Mischief, three (3) counts of Grand Theft, five (5) counts of Possession of Burglary Tools, Possession of Cocaine and Possession of Drug Parphernalia and is being held at the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office Jail with no bond. Stanford Gulley was charged with four (4) counts of Burglary of an Unoccupied Structure, Driving while License is Suspended and is being held at the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office Jail. His bond is set at $45,000. Additional charges are pending as the case is being presented to the Statewide Prosecutor's Office.
