    Details:

On March 18, 2016 at 8:45 pm, a single vehicle crash occurred at Old Mulberry Road near Merrin Road. The vehicle, a green 1993 Nissan Altima / Tennessee tag 217BNC, struck a telephone pole. Witnesses saw the driver, a Hispanic male, leave the scene on foot. When deputies arrived, they discovered a deceased male passenger inside of the vehicle.

Throughout the course of the investigation, Miguel Angel Castaneda was identified as the driver of the vehicle. On March 21, 2016, detectives located Castaneda at his home, located at 4504 Hwy. 574 Lot 115 in Plant City. Post Miranda, Castaneda admitted he was the driver of the vehicle. He claimed he attempted to hit the brake when he approached a curve, but stepped on the gas instead and lost control. He fled because he had been drinking beer that day and was afraid. He was arrested and transported to ORJ following clearance at Brandon Hospital. He is charged with Leaving the Scene of a Crash with Death.
