On June 13, 2016 at 11:15 am, a deputy working off-duty in the Logan Gate Subdivision near Monterey Lakeside Park located at 6602 Monterey Boulevard heard a loud explosion. The deputy responded to the park and observed the defendant setting off chemical (acid) bombs at the park. The defendant had a 10-year-old juvenile boy with him.
The defendant was showing the boy how to set off the chemical bombs and had the juvenile participate in throwing them. A search of the defendant's vehicle yielded additional chemicals used to make acid bombs. HCSO Bomb Team member responded to the scene, neutralizing and securing the chemicals.
The child's mother responded to the scene and took possession of the juvenile. The defendant works as a baby sitter through Care.com and has been baby sitting the juvenile for a period of 4 years.
Lapin-Bertone was arrested and transported to the Orient Road Jail without incident.
