On 2/27/2016, just after 2 pm, Joshua Thomas entered the Quick Pick Chevron located at 39 Hwy and SR 60 wearing a mask and armed with a black pistol. Thomas demanded money, however he fled the store and rode away on a motorized bike without receiving any cash.
Deputies quickly responded to the scene and interviewed the witnesses and retrieved a store surveillance video. Deputies reviewed the video and discovered Thomas was in the store about an hour before, wearing the same clothing without the mask.
Deputy Mike Roberts obtained information that Thomas was seen operating a similar bike in the area and began searching for him. A short time later, Deputy Roberts spotted Thomas near Smith Ryals Road and S.R. 60 and attempted to stop him. Thomas fled on the bike, however he was caught a short distance away. The firearm was not recovered.
Thomas was positively identified by witnesses as the person who committed the robbery. Thomas was booked into the Hillsborough County Orient Road Jail and is being held without bond.
Thomas is a suspect in a robbery that occurred at Circle K on County Line Rd and Cornet Road in Polk County a few hours prior to the robbery listed above. Polk County Sheriff's Office is working that investigation.
