    Details:

    The following information is preliminary details known at the time of this release and is subject to change as the investigation continues;

    Hillsborough County, FL - On 03/08/2016 at approximately 10:45 pm, HCSO was notified that a man was outside his apartment at 14889 Swallow Tail Court yelling and screaming while waving a gun.

    At least 4 deputies arrived on scene and spotted Jeffery Casale still outside the apartment screaming and waving what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun. Deputies instructed Casale to drop his weapon numerous times via a patrol vehicle PA system. One of the four deputies is a seasoned Crisis Intervention Deputy who tried to verbally calm Casale and attempt to establish a verbal dialog to de-escalate the situation.

    Casale remained extremely agitated and rapidly advanced upon the 4 deputies while pointing his firearms at them. At this point, the 4 deputies feared for their lives and were forced to open fire hitting Casale in the upper body.

    Deputies immediately began first aid until Casale could be transported to a local hospital where he died.

    At this time, HCSO Homicide Detectives, Crime Scene Investigators and the Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office is conducting an active investigation.

    The deputies who were involved in the shooting will be placed on routine administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

    The investigation continues.
