On February 25, 2017 at 8:38 p.m., the fire extinguisher in theater #20 of Regal Cinemas Citrus Park was activated, causing carbon dioxide to spread throughout the theater. Several patrons attempted to exit the theater, but were unable to open the single door that led out to the hallway. After several attempts to open it, patrons exited out the emergency exit located next to the movie screen. Through several interviews, it was learned the main entrance/exit door to theater #20 was barricaded with a tensabarrier so as to prevent patrons from leaving. Video surveillance was reviewed at the scene with negative results.
