On 04/01/17 at 10:04 am, a Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office deputy was traveling south on Sydney Dover Road, south of Dr. King Boulevard when he observed a SUV vehicle traveling north while in the southbound lane of traffic. The deputy took evasive action by driving to the side of the road to avoid a head on collision. The deputy conducted a traffic stop on the 1997 Ford Explorer, being driven by Javier German-Rojas. Upon contact with the driver, the deputy observed indicators of impairment. Following a DUI investigation, Javier German-Rojas was arrested for DUI after unsuccessfully performing SFSE's. The driver was charged with DUI with property damage, DUI with BAC over .150 with a Person under 18, and No Valid Drivers License. The driver was transported to CBT where he provided a lawful breath sample (.156/.151 BAC.)
A witness approached deputies and advised the vehicle deputies had stopped was involved in a hit and run crash with property damage just south from the current location. The witness stated that they were traveling southbound on Sydney Dover Road when the Ford Explorer that was traveling northbound entered the southbound lane of travel, side swiping the front driver side of vehicle 2 with the front driver side of his 1997 Ford Explorer. The Ford Explorer continued traveling northbound before nearly striking the deputy who was traveling in the southbound lane of Sydney Dover Road.
