This holiday season, thirty families will get gift boxes with their names on them.
For almost 40 years, Deputies in the south part of the County have been playing Santa and making children’s dreams come true. Friday, December 22, the Deputies Darlin’s group is back at it again wrapping presents and delivering them right in time for Christmas.
The volunteer program was started in 1980 by a dedicated community service officer who saw a need among the less fortunate families in the area. Since then, deputies in District Four and volunteers have come together every year and identified several families to help out. This holiday season, thirty families will get gift boxes with their names on them. The presents are purchased with donations from local businesses and individuals.
Almost 50 volunteers are expected to help wrap gifts around 6 p.m. at the back side of the Flea Market Building located at 423 Northeast 19th Avenue in Ruskin. The Gifts will be delivered the next day.
