    Details:

Kendrick Atkins and Tyler Johnson were arrested yesterday and charged with over 17 criminal counts between them, after they robbed a Ruskin gas station and shot at a store employee while on Interstate 75.

Atkins stole four cartons of cigarettes from the RaceTrac at 3105 College Avenue by distracting the clerk and running out of the store. He escaped with Johnson who was waiting in a stolen 2008 Dodge Charger. While on her way home, a store employee recognized the vehicle from the robbery moments earlier. She then took the opportunity to obtain the vehicle’s license plate. While driving on Interstate 75, the suspects realized she was behind them and Atkins began shooting at her. The employee was not injured.

Deputies found the vehicle at the Allegro Palms apartment complex, 5501 Legacy Crescent Place in Riverview. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and were arrested after a short foot pursuit. Deputies recovered the cigarette cartons along with two firearms. The Dodge Charger was reported stolen during a carjacking on 11/11/17. One of the recovered firearms was reported stolen during a vehicle burglary in Hillsborough County on 6/17/17 from a car that was left unlocked.

Johnson and Atkins were booked into the Orient Road Jail. The investigation continues.
