On September 12, 2017 at 1:35 am, deputies responded to a shooting at the Chevron locate at 7710 Madison Avenue. Upon arrival, deputies located two deceased black males near a gas pump. The victims were later identified as Dremaine Vashaun Johnson, DOB: 8/30/93, and James J. Nicholas, DOB: 9/25/93.
During the investigation, a witness to the shooting was located and provided a sworn statement under oath during which he identified the subject who shot the two victims. He also described the vehicle in which the victims were shot as a dark Nissan Altima. The witness viewed a sequential line-up and identified Raynald Lamonthe as the person who shot the victims and left the scene in the dark-colored Nissan Altima.
On 9/12/17 at approximately 10:00 a.m., Dr. Devers of the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner's Office performed the autopsy. She determined the cuase of death for both subjects was multiple gunshot wounds to the head.
On 9/12/17 at approximately 7:52 p.m., a deputy with the Orange County Sheriff's Office came in contact with Raynald Lamothe during the course of a trespassing investigation at the 7-Eleven at 4699 Rio Grande Avenue in Orlando, Florida. During this investigation, Raynald Lamothe was found in possession of the Nissan Altima. The investigating deputy observed what appeared to be a bullet hole in the exterior of the car and what appeared to be blood on the front passenger seat. This is consistent with the shooting as described by the witness. Raynald Lamothe was identified via his Florida Driver's License.
