On April 11, 2018, at approximately 1:30 pm, the victim was dropped off by a friend at a vacant home in Ruskin where she met the defendant, Jerry Roberts Jr. who guided her to the rear entrance of the home. The victim entered the residence and was struck multiple times in the face and head by Roberts. Roberts then held a machete to her neck and threatened her life, tied up with a ligature and sexually battered her. The victim was kept inside the vacant residence for approximately 18 hours before she was able to escape.
A court authorized search warrant of the residence was conducted and evidence found was consistent that matched the victim's statements. Video of the victim bound and naked was found on Robert's phone along with other forensic evidence was seized.
