Willie Devarr Bell
On August 1, at approximately 1:46 p.m. today, Willie Devarr Bell, a 51-year-old black male inmate, passed away at Brandon Regional Hospital. Bell had been assigned to the Falkenburg Road Jail infirmary for the treatment of chronic illnesses. Shortly before 1 p.m., medical staff determined his condition required transportation to the hospital.
No foul play is suspected and there are no obvious signs of trauma. The Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy to determine a cause of death. Next of Kin has been notified.
Bell had been jail since July 13 after being arrested for "Failure to obey written promise" (Failure to Appear/No Valid Driver License/$5,000 bond). He had previously been arrested 19 times, dating back to 2003, on various misdemeanor and felony charges.
This is a preliminary report and very early in the investigation.
